
Benjamin Percy received his BA with Honors from Brown University and his MFA from Southern Illinois University. He currently lives in Ames, Iowa, with his wife and two children, and he teaches Creative Writing (fiction and nonfiction) in the MFA program at Iowa State University. Prior to joining the faculty here, he taught at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Marquette University. Percy is also a faculty member at the Low-Res MFA program at Pacific University.
He is the author of a novel The Wilding (2010), and two books of short stories, Refresh, Refresh (2007) and The Language of Elk (2006). His fiction and nonfiction have been read on National Public Radio, performed at Symphony Space, and published by Esquire, Men’s Journal, Outside, Paris Review, Chicago Tribune, Glimmer Train, and many other publications. Benjamin Percy has been awarded a Whiting Award, a Pushcart Prize, a Plimpton Prize, in addition to his work being selected in various The Best American Short Stories anthologies, like “In the Rough” featured in The Best American Short Stories 2008 and “The Killing” in The Best American Short Stories 2009.
