James loves short stories. Absolutely loves them. Depending on the time of day and his level of hunger, he can be heard defending, extolling the virtues of, or reading short fiction. He loves the grace and power of a well-written story, how through only fifteen or twenty pages, the reader can see the aspirations, faults and failures of a character, and from that glean some understanding of the skeleton arc of a character’s life. James has served as fiction editor for Sycamore Review since the summer of 2008.
